2014 Thredbo Swimming Camp
November 23, 2014 at 5:28 PM
On the October long weekend, 17 swimmers from Ryde headed to Thredbo for our annual camp. We were joined by partners, kids, our coaches Greg and Wendy as well as 6 swimmers from Tuggeranong Masters.
It was a relaxing and enjoyable break. We stayed at Boali lodge where chef, Jake, prepared us breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our main work for the day was planning bushwalks and chairlift tickets, or perhaps just reading and taking in the views in the Boali lounge room. Ok, some people were more active...going skiing at Perisher (Kathy, Martin and family), playing squash (Greg and Andrew...twice!), going to the pub (Tuggeranong dominant here) and watching Souths! win the rugby league grand final.
As it was a swimming camp, we also completed 6 swimming sessions. This involved lots of stroke correction where many of us learnt something new and important. The Tuggeranong swimmers have also developed a Beep test for swimming which they inflicted upon us on the Saturday morning. Most of us managed about 300 m under the high altitude conditions, but Andrew swam a full kilometre!
In all, we had a great time and many of us are already looking forward to next year's camp. If you're new to the club, keep this camp in mind. We plan to go again on 2-5 October 2015.
